Automation Specialist

Mississauga

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible to meet with the engineering advisors to understand the control system needs, define control system functional requirements and develop the automation scope of work.
  • Design and implement modifications to existing equipment for efficiency and quality improvements
  • Work with outside contractors for upgrades and/or new installation.
  • Work with the EPC and/or Automation Integrator to develop the system architecture and ensure the control system will meet the functional requirements.
  • Work on optimizing and standardizing of PLC technology in the facility.
  • Responsible of introducing/updating any coffee transfer programs.
  • Work on standardized PLC programs for the various plant processes which utilize PLC technology within the various plants and facilities.
  • Develop and implement control system programming guidelines, processes, procedures, and methods.
  • Identify technical risks and mitigation solutions.
  • Ensure standards are supported and maintained.
  • Lead reviews on the control system deliverables and improve quality, performance, knowledge as needed.
  • Provide input into improvement of current engineering processes and practices
  • Manage the PLC programming software.
  • Provide support for testing (FAT/iFAT/SAT), commissioning and start-up.
  • Provide support for control system maintenance.

Strategic/Tactical Organizational Management

  • Ensure operational requirements are met with efficiency, quality, service, and cost-effective management of resources.
  • Support the Automation group regarding client satisfaction with the control system products and services provided.
  • Encourage, manages and assists the application of technology to enable optimum use of operational resources.
  • Assist with performance and improvement of the group by providing important feedback to the team and management.
  • Respect, mentor and coach team members towards technical and personal development.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of directly related experience in the definition, design, implementation, programming and commissioning of PLC based control systems.
  • Good working knowledge of PLC, DCS, SCADA, instrumentation and low voltage electrical design
  • Experience in plant commissioning and start-up.
  • Experience in control system support and maintenance.
  • Experience with food manufacturing company.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • 1 -  3 years' experience in a food manufacturing environment is preferred

  • Knowledge of processing and material handling equipment

  • Demonstrate safe work habits and good work ethics

  • Willingness to work in a team environment
