Basic Purpose: Supervises, directs and coordinates activities of all production team members involved in the manufacturing of coffee and tea. Work closely with Quality and Processing to ensure adherence to product specifications and good manufacturing practices. Work closely with Maintenance in addressing equipment needs to ensure operational effectiveness. Acts as a liaison between the Production Manager and Shift Supervisors.

Essential Responsibilities / Specific Duties:

  Accountable for the production team and provides leadership through planning and directing production activities by ensuring schedule execution for products in keeping with efficient operations, customer service goals and cost factors.

  Coordinates production activities to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines and equipment in a safe work environment and executing exemplary safety performance.

  Reviews and analyzes production, quality control, maintenance and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications and operating or production problems. Reviews production and operating reports and resolves manufacturing problems to minimize costs and prevent operational delays.

  Identify, implement and follow up on measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of product by establishing KPIs and relevant reporting.

  Determine production needs based on schedule to ensure operational effectiveness while adhering to cost structures.

  Study variances and implement plans for improvements through utilization of continuous improvement methods.

  Maintains good employee relations and adherence to company policies and procedures.     Takes proper and judicious disciplinary measures when required in order to strengthen workplace culture and adherence to company goals by evaluating employee performance and providing continuous performance feedback.

  Initiate and suggest plans to motivate workers to achieve goals. Establish accountabilities and goals used for performance evaluations in order to train, coach and guide optimum levels of employee performance.

  Communicate production performance to the Production Manager including but not limited to safety, quality adherence, equipment efficiency, schedule adherence, operator performance and material usage in order to create a team focus by supporting and leading the Shift Supervisors.

  Collaborate on process improvement projects with all Department Managers and Supervisors.

  Develop manpower planning and utilization programs to satisfy actual and projected requirements, including the scheduling of overtime and the cost-effective use of temporary services and direct and indirect labor.

  Monitor and investigate all accident investigations.

  Partner with Human Resources to develop and train Shift Supervisors to increase long term capability of the plant.

  Support the Production Manager with collecting and reporting data for budgets.

  Prepare and report production reports and key performance indicators to the Production Manager.

  Assure good housekeeping, equipment cleanliness and safe work environment.

  Other duties as assigned.

Reporting Relationship:

Reports directly to the Production manager and has direct supervision of Shift Supervisors and teams

Internal Relationships:

Commodities, Quality, Customer Service, Human Resources, Engineering, Maintenance, Marketing, Production, Production Planning, Purchasing and Warehouse staff

External Relationships:

Customers and Suppliers

QUALIFICATIONS 

Knowledge & Key Competencies:

  B.S, MBA, Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent required

  Food manufacturing experience preferred

  Five to ten years of broad technical production experience, of which two to three should be in manufacturing (food manufacturing preferred) operations and/or manufacturing/process engineering.

  Additional class work in management type courses and problem-solving techniques (i.e. 5 Why, RCCA, Statistical Quality Control/Statistical Process Control, etc.)

  Demonstrated experience in continuous improvement methodology

  Proven skills in managing, coaching and guiding teams

  Possess strong computer and software applications skills

  Willing to work flexible hours to provide supervisory coverage

  Excellent written and oral communication

  Ability to manage a team and maintain good employee relations and adherence to company policies and procedures  

  Ensures facility is constantly prepared for regulatory, corporate and customer directed inspections

  Establish accountabilities and goals used for performance evaluations

  Perform other work-related duties as assigned by Production Manager

  Ability to manage a budget
